Zojo-ji and Tokyo Tower dusk view

Fri, January 27, 2012

Zojo-ji Temple, one of the most important temples from Tokyo, was established in 1393, but it was moved to its present location only in 1598, at the orders of Tokugawa Ieyasu. After Tokugawa became a shogun, Zojo-ji became the temple of the Tokugawa family and a symbol of the shogunate power.

360 years later, very close to this symbol of the Edo period, a new symbol of power was built: Tokyo Tower, which represented for over 50 years the Japanese economic power… and which is in turn replaced now by the spectacular Tokyo Sky Tree.
Here’s a view I enjoyed a lot, with these two great landmarks photographed at dusk: Zojo-ji, the symbol of the distant past, in darkness and Tokyo Tower, the symbol of the recent past, in full bright light…
