Japanese superlatives, Osaka Station

Located in the busy Umeda district, Osaka Station, the most important train station in Osaka, holds an interesting record: it is the third busiest train station in the world!

Although it serves only local and interregional express trains (the Shinkansen stops a few kilometers away, at the Shin-Osaka Station), this station, together with the interconnected Metro stations serves over 2 million passenger per day (2.3 million passengers according to a statistic from 2005).

But Osaka Station, renovated this year in April, is also one of the most beautiful and modern train stations in Japan. Here is one of the most attractive areas, the bridge connecting the north and south buildings, called Toki no Hiroba (Time and Space Plaza), a name highlighted by two large clocks (you can see one of them - the golden clock visible in the background). A beautiful architecture, with wide and luminous spaces and a spectacular glass roof:
