Tokyo Returning to Normality - The Two Towers

Fri, March 18, 2011

Daily Yomiuri, an English language publication of Japan’s largest daily newspaper, The Yomiuri Shimbun, reported today two events I find significant from the point of view of the real life in Japan’s capital:

Tokyo Sky Tree reached its final height of 634 meters just after 1:30 today.

I think it’s amazing that after all the unfortunate events of this week, the work at Tokyo Sky Tree continued as planned.

Also, another tweet informed us that, just a week after the earthquake:

Tokyo Tower will be back open to tourists tomorrow. Its tip that was bent in the earthquake has been reinforced.

I never doubted that Japan will find the strength to return to a normal life. I am however deeply impressed how fast they are managing to do that. And what better image to symbolize the returning to normality than these two towers from Tokyo, the symbols of Japan over the last 50 years.

On the same note, I would also like to mention a tweet by @ShizG178 which presented photos (that since then became viral) of a road (from Tokiwa, in the Fukushima Prefecture), severely damaged during the earthquake… and just 4 days later, the workers already completing repairs.
The message says it all:

If anybody doubted Japan will recover from this disaster, here is proof:
