Tokyo Architecture, Fuji TV

Sun, December 26, 2010

The landmark of Odaiba island, and at the same time one of my favorite Tokyo buildings, is the headquarter of Fuji Television, a building designed by the famous architect Kenzo Tange. The building stands out with an unusual architecture, which is also highly earthquake resistant.

The first time I visited it, I wondered how they raised that sphere, which is 32 meters in diameter - approx. the height of a regular 10-story building!
It turns out that the sphere was built on the roof of a nearby building, on the 7th floor, then raised with hydraulic jacks to the 25th floor.
