Blossoming Lotus in Shinobazu Pond

Since ancient times, in Asia, the lotus was a symbol of purity.

Several weeks ago, on the Shinobazu Pond in Ueno, the lotus flowers started to blossom. I couldn’t miss such an event, so I went there several times, to admire and photograph the flowers.

Of course, there were a lot of photographers:

On the Buddhist iconography, Buddha is represented sitting on a pink lotus flower. The Hindu Goddess Saraswati, known in Japan as Benzaiten, is also often represented sitting on a white colored lotus. On the shores of the Shinobazu Pond, there is a temple dedicated to Benzaited, that can be seen in the distance:

Lotuşi înfloriţi în lacul Shinobazu

Încă din cele mai vechi timpuri, în Asia, lotusul a fost simbolul purităţii.

De câteva săptămâni au început să înflorească lotuşii din parcul Ueno. Nu puteam lipsi de la un asemenea eveniment, aşa că am fost şi eu de câteva ori să admir şi să fotografiez florile.

În iconografia budistă, Buddha este reprezentat stând pe o floare de lotus de culoare roz. Zeiţa hindu Saraswati, cunoscută în Japonia cu numele de Benzaiten, este reprezentată stând pe un lotus de culoare albă. Pe malul lacului Shinobazu se află un templul dedicat ei, care se vede în depărtare.
