Bon Odori at Tsukiji

Wed, August 5, 2009

If you’re in Japan in August, you must participate at a Bon Odori. So, tonight I went to the Tsukiji Hongwan-ji Temple.

I arrived there around 6pm, when it was still daylight, and in the temple’s courtyard, in a paper lantern decorated area, there was a taiko concert.

Soon, the spectators, in large number, young and elderly alike, started dancing.

I watched them dancing and the music got me… This Bon Odori music is so powerful, it’s still playing in my head!

Almost the same melody, but different:

I couldn’t resist the temptation to offer you some photos:

Tsukiji Hongan-ji Temple Bon Odori
