Kobuntei elegant round window

Wed, July 10, 2019

This elegant round window is at the 3rd floor of the reconstructed Kobuntei villa in the Kairaku-en garden in Mito, in the lord’s room.

Although the house was burned by the bombings at the end of WWII, the war drum (odaiko) of the lord Tokugawa Nariaki was saved from the fire, and its wood was used to recreate this beautiful window. Also, the bamboo pillar in the center of the photo was a gift from the city of Kagoshima.
