The Shinto portable shrines (mikoshi in Japanese) used at Shinto festivals (matsuri) are sophisticated artworks weighting hundreds of kilograms, being carried through the streets by a large number of bearers.
It is an honor to be part of a mikoshi bearers team, but it requires quite an effort, especially during a hot summer days, like the one when I took this photo at the Furusato Kumin Matsuri in Tokyo.
