The newest of the 3 gardens of the Kyoto Nijo castle, Seiryu-en, although it was built recently, in 1965, includes elements much more older. Part of the rocks collection and the tea house photographed here, called Koun-tei, were originally part of the home of a wealthy merchant named Ryoi Suminokura, who lived in the Edo period.
