Registered three years ago as a Japanese Intangible Cultural Heritage, the Yama-buttsuke Matsuri is one of the most important festivals in Akita, taking place in September, in the Kakunodate town.
The festival features unique floats, decorated with dolls and sculptures representing samurai and kabuki actors, pulled throughout the town’s samurai district.
