Established more than 1200 years ago on top of Mount Hakone, the Hakone Shrine was moved on current location at the beginning of the Edo Period.
The torii gate in the water of the Lake Ashi, one of the symbols of Japan, was built in 1951 to commemorate of the Peace Treaty signed by Japan with 49 nations, formally ending the World War II.
