The first area in Kyushu that was declared Preservation District for Groups of Historic Buildings was the Obi castle town in Nichinan, Miyazaki Prefecture. With its large streets lined by thick and tall, moss covered stone walls, it is one of the most interesting samurai districts in Japan. And the canals filled with crystal water and colorful Japanese ornamental carps (koi) are making it a very joyful place.
