Established in 1617, Yoshiwara was the only red-light district in Edo. It was a closed area in the Nihonbashi district, with 4 streets accessible through a single gate.
Moved to Asakusa 49 years later, it was finally dismantled in 1958. A reconstruction of a part of Yoshiwara was made inside the Toei Uzumasa Eigamura film studio in Kyoto.
