Reconstructed 233 years ago and recognized now as an Important Cultural Property of the Kanagawa Prefecture, the two-storied gate of the Engaku-ji temple in Kamakura is a representative gate for the sanmon (or sangedatsumon) type of gate, the most important gate of a Japanese Zen Buddhist temple.
