The chrysanthemum (kiku in Japanese) is one of the symbols of Japan, and it is associated with the Imperial Family, the throne of the Emperor of Japan being named the Chrysanthemum Throne.
During November, the country is filled with kiku exhibitions, with displays varying from pot flowers to very sophisticated arrangements.
Photographed here is one of the most complex and beautiful chrysanthemum displays I have seen. Exhibited at the Izumo Taisha Grand Shrine, it features a pagoda with roofs covered in small yellow chrysanthemums.
