The Zen gardens are not the only ones made for meditation, there are also some promenade gardens designed with the same purpose. The bridge photographed here, Togetsukyo (meaning the “crossing-moon” bridge) in Rikugi-en, Tokyo, illustrates a waka poem (a type of classical Japanese poetry) speaking about the movement of the moon.
The rock in the middle is selected to sustain the bridge while representing, together with its reflection in the water, the full moon. The bridge, slightly arched, represents the trajectory of the moon…
