It is said that the small shrine next to the Tatsumi bridge in Gion, Kyoto, was established to “tame” a mischievous tanuki who was scaring the passersby, making them fall in the water…
Who knows, maybe all those people were falling in the water because of too much sake consumed at the many surrounding restaurants… Regardless, the small Tatsumi shrine is worth a visit, especially in the spring, when it is covered by cherry blossom, or during the summer, when it is covered by crape myrtle flowers, as you can see in this photo…
