The Kobe Tetsujin Project was launched 14 years after the Great Hanshin earthquake, in order to bring a touch of color and joyfulness in a reconstructed neighborhood, which was without any landmark. The giant statue, 15.3 meters tall and weighting 50 tons, is a 1:1 scale reproduction of the Tetsujin-28 robot from the manga/anime with the same name.
The project was very well received, and today the giant robot is indeed a landmark of Kobe, gathering around not only children but also manga/anime fans from all around the world.
