This winding stepping-stone bridge in the middle garden of Heian Jingu, Kyoto, was made by using a selection of stones recycled from the old Sanjo Ohashi and Gojo Ohashi bridges, both built during the Toyotomi Hideyoshi era.
It is said that its twisting shape was conceived to give the visitor the impression of stepping on the back scales of dragon, hence its name meaning the “lying down dragon bridge"…
