On the List of National Treasures of Japan, one category lists the Buddhist temples with particular artistic or historical value, and on this category Kyoto is listed with 26 temple structures, a number second only to Nara’s 29 entries.
Among these invaluable constructions, one of the most interesting (and definitely a must see for any tourist visiting Kyoto) is the Main Hall of the Sanjūsangen-dō, a 750 years old wooden building that holds the record of being the longest wooden structure from Japan.
