The Dotonbori street in Osaka is the most famous food travel destination in Japan, but although the street is always full of people (and even crowded after sunset), the competition between the restaurants is fierce.
Thus, each restaurant does its best to attract customers, through street publicity and with billboards and signs. The first Dotonbori restaurant to display an extravagant billboard was Kani Doraku, which in 1960 installed a huge mechanized crab… And since then, the street was filled with such advertising boards… One of my favorites is this giant hand holding a sushi piece, made by the Genroku sushi, the restaurant that invented the belt-conveyor sushi…
