This giant statue was erected in Kobe 14 years after the Great Hanshin Earthquake, to create a landmark in the severely damaged city. The character represented, the robot Tetsujin-28, has strong connections with the city through its creator, mangaka Mitsuteru Yokoyama, who was born in Kobe.
The statue represents Tetsujin-28 at a 1:1 scale, having a height of 15.3 meters and weighting 50 tons, making for an impressive sight.
