A few days ago, I was asked to recommend a place to visit in Kyoto on a very short trip (only a day), during the sakura season. It was really hard to decide, but in the end I recommended Higashiyama, the district from the eastern part of Kyoto.
Why? Once you’re here, you’re a very short distance from a beautiful and famous shrine (Yasaka Shrine), a must see park during the sakura season, a few famous and representative temples (Kiyomizu-dera and Kodai-ji), a spectacular pagoda (Yasaka Pagoda) and a giant statue (Ryozen Kannon Bosatsu), all these surrounding one of the most beautiful neighborhoods from Kyoto, filled with traditional restaurants, tea-houses and omiyage shops… Plus countless beautiful girls dressed in yukata…
