Osaka Umeda Long Exposure Night Photo

Tue, October 25, 2011

Before the construction of the Osaka train station (in 1874), the area of today’s Umeda district was, like the name says, an agricultural area - Umeda 「梅田」 means “ume field” (ume is the Japanese plum).
But the name is not appropriate anymore: today, most of Osaka’s skyscrapers (approx. 40) are located here, Umeda being the most important business and commercial district of Osaka.

Since I was accommodated right next to the Osaka Station, I enjoyed quite a few evening strolls through Umeda and you know how much I like taking night photos. Here I was on Sonezaki-dori, in the western part of Umeda, the round, brightly illuminated building is Breezé Breezé, un modern mall and the tall building visible right behind it is the Ritz-Carlton Osaka hotel.
