The Shitenno-ji Temple was established by Prince Shotoku, son of Emperor Yomei, the 31st emperor of Japan, in the year 593. An amazing fact is that although during its history the building was destroyed several times, it was always carefully rebuilt to maintain the original design.
This is one of the must see places in Osaka, and that’s not only because it is the oldest official temple in Japan. It’s because this is one of the few five-story pagodas where the access inside is allowed and you can climb right to the top… it is a unique experience!
