While visiting Japan, if you participate at Japanese festivals, you will notice that the most popular temporary stalls (
yatai) are, besides the ones selling food, those with
kingyo-sukui games,
masks,
choco-banana,
ringo ame (candied apples) and something looking very similar to the cotton candy, sold in plastic bags decorated with characters from popular anime series.
Called
wata gum (
wata means "cotton" in Japanese), this actually only looks like cotton candy - it is a sort of bubble gum... And with a very strong flavor,
wata gum is a pleasant and unusual sensation...
