Kokuzo Bosatsu

The Great Buddha Hall (Daibutsuden) from the Todai-ji Temple from Nara is the largest building in the world made entirely of wood. Here is one of the most famous Great Buddha statues from Japan, the Vairocana Daibutsu.

However, inside the hall there are two more great statues, with a comparable height, placed behind and on the sides of the Daibutsu. One of them represents Kannon Bosatsu (Avalokiteśvara Bodhisattva) and the other (in the photo) represents Kokuzo Bosatsu (Ākāśagarbha Bodhisattva), one of the eight great bodhisattvas, the Bodhisattva of Wisdom and Memory.
