Nikko Toshougu Shimojinko

Thu, November 23, 2017

The Toshougu shrine in Nikko is one of the largest and most decorated Shinto shrines. Built in a record time, in only one year and five months, it is estimated that its cost was, calculated in today’s money, around 40 billion yen, about 360 million dollars.

Photographed here is Shimojinko (Lower Sacred Storehouse) one of the storehouses of the complex, designated as Important Cultural Property, used to store the costumes used in the Procession of 1000 Samurai.
