Cute rabbit statues at Izumo Taisha

Sun, December 4, 2016

Similar to the Inari shrines, which are featuring statues representing kitsune because kitsune are the messengers of kami (god) Inari, at the shrines dedicated to Okuninushi-no-Mikoto you will always see cute statues representing rabbits.

Okuninushi-no-Mikoto is the kami of love, marriage and matchmaking, so many of the rabbit statues are made in pairs, like these photographed at the Izumo Taisha Grand Shrine, the original place of the Hare of Inaba legend.
