Raikyu-ji Zen garden

Designed by one of the most famous castle architects of the Edo Period, Kobori Enshū (designer of the Nagoya castle), the Zen garden of the Raikyu-ji temple in Takahashi was maintained in its original form for almost 400 years.

An element of originality is that, besides the carefully selected rocks, the Raikyu-ji garden also features a large number of painstakingly trimmed shrubs. If you’re visiting the Bitchū Matsuyama castle, take a small detour to admire this Japanese gardening jewel…
