Pure Zen in Kyoto, Kogetsudai moon viewing platform

It is said that, during the full moon nights, seen from the top floor of the Ginkaku-ji “Silver Pavilion", this gigantic but flawless sand cone looks like the reflection of the moon on a quiet pond… Hence the name Kogetsudai, which means “moon viewing platform". It is also said that Kogetsudai was made as a Zen representation of Mount Fuji…

But although its original purpose is unclear today, this perfect 2-meters-tall mountain of sand is a spectacle itself, and maybe a way to experience a bit of the pure Zen art…
