Travel destinations for kids, Saitama Railway Museum Park Zone

Sun, May 13, 2012

I was always amazed about the great interest of Japanese people in everything related to trains. And it’s an interest that appeals to all ages: if you visit the Railway Museum from Saitama, you will find it bustling with children, some of them too young to understand but brought there by their grandmother, some running around and pressing every possible button and some with notebooks in their hands, studying every item… probably the future railway professionals…

Besides its historical part (which, by the way, is excellent), the museum also has an important educational zone. In this photo you can see the Park Zone, a place which simulates for kids an entire railway. Miniature trains are operating by the same rules as the real ones and the visiting children can operate signals and a lot of other railway related systems.
I’m a girl, but I’m sure I would have loved this as a kid…
