There are over 300 scramble crossings in Japan - the Japanese term is sukuranburu-kōsaten 「スクランブル交差点」 and some of them are really famous, like the ones from Shibuya and Shinjuku.
Completely stopping the traffic, the scramble crossings are considered much safer than the regular crossings, and the fact that the intersections can be crossed diagonally makes them preferred by the pedestrians. And why not, considering the urban landscape, they have a certain beauty…
A few months ago, another one was created in my favorite Tokyo area, Asakusa, right in front of the Kaminarimon Gate… an occasion of joy for me, because I always wanted to take photos with the Kaminarimon Gate by standing in the middle of the intersection. Of course, you can’t stay there for long, but long enough to take a good picture…
