In Yokohama, near Yamashita Park, you can visit one of the most famous Japanese passenger ships, the Hikawa Maru.
Named after the Hikawa Shrine from Omiya (Saitama), Hikawa Maru was built in 1929 and it was a luxury passenger ship (nicknamed “Queen of the Pacific") until the World War II, when it was converted to a hospital ship.
Although it suffered some damage, in the end it was the only Japanese passenger liner to survive the war.
It was recently restored (in 2008) and now is opened to the public as a museum.
