Phoenix Hall, Uji, Kyoto

Built more than 950 years ago as a terrestrial image for the celestial paradise, the Phoenix Hall in Uji, Kyoto, together with its surrounding garden, is among the best known images from Japan. Its great popularity made it being selected to be represented on the Japanese 10 yen coin.
