As I was writing at the beginning of this series, for a foreign visitor, the manhole covers of many Japanese cities can serve as unconventional sources of ideas, because they depict the most-interesting local attractions, souvenirs or even foods.
However, I guess that this beautiful manhole cover, photographed in Kanazawa, doesn’t offer much new information… The stone lantern represented, the Kotoji-tōrō of the Kenroku-en garden, is a symbol of the city and it is already well known to any tourist that comes to visit Kanazawa.
