At the feet of the really BIG clock

It is not a figure of speech, the giant NI-TELE really BIG clock from Shidome, Tokyo, has legs indeed. Its designer, the world famous director Hayao Miyazaki, also used this idea in one of its movies, Howl’s Moving Castle.

These are dragon legs, with 3 toes with claws, as they are often represented in the traditional Japanese folklore. There is in Japan an interesting saying about dragons, stating that all the eastern dragons are coming from Japan and that when they leave the country another toe starts to grow. And the farther they get, the more toes they will have…
