The islands composing Japan span from the 24th to the 46th parallel north, covering from northeast to southwest a distance of more than 3000 kilometers. Therefore, the climate varies from subtropical to temperate, and the cherry blossoms season begins in mid January in Okinawa, ending at the beginning of May in Hokkaido.
For Honshu, Kyushu, and Shikoku, it is known that the cherry blossoms full bloom period takes place between mid March and mid April. However, for better precision, the Japanese Meteorological Agency publishes every year the date of cherry blossoms first bloom forecast (Sakura Zensen). The data used for forecasting comes from a sophisticated statistical analysis of 59 sakura cherry trees located in various areas around the country.
