The Steam Locomotive C57

Japan is a country with an important railway history.
I wrote before about this year’s best train, about the first mountain railroad in Japan. However, my first contact with Japan’s railway history was in the Koganei Park, where I discovered a steam locomotive in excellent condition:

It is a C57 class locomotive, built in 1946 by Mitsubishi:

Nicknamed “Noble Lady", for their graceful proportions, these locomotives were popular with their crews because they could be easily maintained by persons with a smaller-stature… like me:

…and here’s the location of the locomotive from the Koganei Park (and it seems that the sakura trees where in full bloom when the satellite photo was taken):

Japonia este o ţară cu o istorie feroviară importantă.
Am scris mai demult despre cel mai bun tren din acest an şi despre prima linie montană din Japonia.
Însă primul meu contact cu istoria trenurilor japoneze l-am avut în parcul Koganei, unde am descoperit o locomotivă cu aburi într-o stare excelentă:

Botezate “Noble Lady", pentru proporţiile lor graţioase, aceste locomotive erau iubite de echipaje pentru că puteau fi manevrate cu uşurinţă de oameni de statură mică… ca mine:
