Diorama of Tenjin Matsuri

Tue, September 8, 2015, by Muza-chan

Tenjin Matsuri is a festival taking place each summer, in July, on the Okawa river in Osaka. Hosted by the popular Tenmangu Shrine, it is one of the greatest festivals of Japan and the world’s largest festival involving traditional boats.

Some boats are fitted with Noh or Bunraku stages, while others, accompanied by drums, are moving fast along the river. The most spectacular part are the bonfire boats, carrying large fire pyres… Photographed here is a diorama of this festival, built inside the Osaka Museum of Housing and Living.
