Dokuza-tei, the Garden of Solitary Meditation

This Zen garden of Zuiho-in, Kyoto, is called Dokuza-tei, “the Garden of Solitary Meditation” and features an interesting representation of the Zen concept of Horai-san, “Treasure Mountain” or “Treasure Island", represented by the highest tallest rock in the corner.

Viewed from this angle, in order to reach the sacred mountain you need to cross a rough wavy sea, represented by the deep lines in the sand. Then, to continue the spiritual journey, you need to cross difficult dry land, in a solitary endeavor…
