The Edo-style floats used at Kumagaya Uchiwa Matsuri in Saitama are two-storied, each featuring a spectacular life-sized statue, representing important personalities from Japan’s history.
The statue from this photo represents Emperor Jimmu, the first emperor of Japan, a direct descendant of the Shinto goddess Amaterasu. The bird on top of the Emperor’s bow is Yatagarasu, the magical raven sent by Amaterasu to guide the Emperor.
