Genkyu-en Garden Wooden Bridges

Bridges are one of the main traits of a promenade type Japanese garden, graciously connecting islands with pavilions or tea houses. The variety of bridge styles is delightful and there are many spectacular bridges, made to stand out through color, like the red Taiko Bridge from the New Otani Hotel, or through shape, like the Yatsuhashi Bridge from Okayama Korakuen…

But other Japanese gardens are featuring bridges made to pass almost unnoticed, like the ones I want to show today. As you can see from this photo, these two wooden bridges, located somewhere in the middle of the Genkyu-en Garden from Hikone, were designed to look just like simple paths, perfectly blending in with the scenery…
