Gifu Castle

Sun, May 8, 2016, by Muza-chan

Unlike other Japanese castles built during the Kamakura period, the Gifu castle had a very short history. It became an important strategic fortification at the end of the Sengoku period, when it was conquered by Oda Nobunaga and it became his headquarters.

However in 1600, after the Battle of Sekigahara, the Gifu castle was dismantled, part of the materials being reused to build the nearby Kano castle. Reconstructed during the middle of the 20th century, today it is one of the main attractions of Gifu.
