Good luck charms for the New Year, Daruma Doll

Unlike other Japanese amulets, a Daruma Doll “shows” its history because, according to tradition, when the owner makes a wish one of the eyes is painted. And the second eye is painted only when the desire is fulfilled…

At the Shorinzan Daruma Temple in Takasaki, the place where the first Daruma Dolls were made, impresses its visitors by showcasing a large number of such dolls. They are brought to the temple as offerings of thanks by those who had their wish fulfilled…
