The great torii of Hakone

The buildings of the Hakone Shrine are located deep in the forest next to the lake Ashi, and from a distance the presence of the shrine is signaled only by the giant torii built on the lake.

It is one of the most famous “floating” torii in Japan, its bright vermilion color harmonizing beautifully with the nature surrounding it and making it visible from all around the lake Ashi area…
