Happy Valentine's Day! Kaikyo Yume Tower Heart

Established in Europe more than a century and a half ago, the Valentine’s Day celebration was brought to Japan by Morozoff Ltd., a cakes and confectioneries company. In 1936, Morozoff run a Valentine’s Day promotional campaign originally targeted at foreign residents. However, the advertisement was successful in attracting Japanese customers, and after the war the idea was picked up by other companies. It seems that a translation mistake led to the fact that in Japan the women are the ones giving gifts to men…

The gift is often heart-shaped chocolate, and a perfect romantic Valentine’s Day also includes a date and a heart-shaped selfie, taken in one of the many observatories known as romantic places. That’s the case with the Kaikyo Yume Tower of Shimonoseki, a place said to bring eternal happiness to couples dating here…
