Himeji Castle interior

Thu, February 16, 2017, by Muza-chan

Ever since the first major restoration works, begun in 1934 and finalized 30 years later, it was decided that nothing will be changed in the interior and the exterior of the Himeji castle. The wooden structure of the main keep was dismantled to allow foundation reinforcements, but all the steel elements and concrete injections were done in a way that made them perfectly hidden.

Today, after the last major restorations in the past years, Himeji is the perfect example of an authentic Japanese castle from the 17th century, both on the outside and inside.
