Hogon-in Kyoto autumn illumination

Tue, December 5, 2017, by Muza-chan

When I visit a Japanese garden offering autumn night illuminations I always try to find an image that defines it. Photographed here is a very beautiful and ingenious wooden lantern installed in the garden of the Hōgon-in temple in Arashiyama, Kyoto. It creates with light a Rising Sun Flag (Kyokujitsu-ki) which, besides other uses, is a symbol of tradition and good fortune.
