How the Sakura viewing became popular

Because of the rapid growth of the population and the frequent fires, during the 18th century, the green areas of Edo were diminishing rapidly.
The Shogun Tokugawa Yoshimune (1716-1745) solved the problem by ordering its subordinates to plant sakura in several areas in Edo (Asukayama, the banks of the Sumida River, Shinagawa Gotenyama, Koganei and the banks of the Tamagawa water system).

Odată cu creşterea rapidă a populaţiei şi a incendiilor frecvente, în secolul al XVIII-lea, suprafeţele cu verdeaţă din Edo au devenit din ce în ce mai mici.
Shogunul Tokugawa Yoshimune (1716–1745) a rezolvat problema, dând ordine să se planteze sakura în mai multe zone din Edo (Asukayama, pe malul râului Sumida, Shinagawa Gotenyama, Koganei şi pe malurile canalului Tamagawa).
